This week I joined 2 social networking sites, MySpace and Flickr. And this is what I thought:
MySpace: Very easy to join and create my page. I was able to customize it using a template for the background and adding things like my favorite songs and videos from YouTube. I also posted pictures of myself and friends which I really think enhanced the individuality of my page. Some friends found my page and added me to their list of "Friends". I was surprised that they had discovered me so quickly - I didn't even tell them I had joined. MySpace made it easy to keep in touch with people throughout the week. I posted a few messages on their pages just to say hello. Normally I would have contacted them once a month or so. This enables me to keep in touch with them when I want to.
Flickr: Lots of fun. I posted pics of friends, cats, travel places, etc. and in minutes people were posting that they liked them. I also joined a few "groups" - for example, the "Travel" group. This is where people post their travel pictures which forms a kind of album that others can look at. It was interesting to get replies from people from all over the globe. It just shows how international images are - language and culture do not matter. This site definitely did not have the same networking capabilities that MySpace has. However, it is a place where people connect, just visually.
